Patty Stevenson
“Her songwriting is astute and heartfelt. Her musicianship, whether guitar, piano, or harp, is impeccable.” -Victory Review, Tacoma, WA
Patty Stevenson is best known for her masterful piano, inspired songwriting, sweet vocals, and guitar as well as a harp she built for her 1st folk recording, The One About You. She has 3 solo albums and 2 with husband and music partner Craig Siemsen. Her very first recording, Clouds on the Mountain, featured piano solos. The rest are in the acoustic, singer/songwriter, Americana genre. Her CD “I Will” has been raising money and awareness for children waiting for families around the world.
From coffee houses & house concerts to music festivals, Patty has delighted audiences from the midwest, southwest and beyond with “Songs that shine“ Whether singing about cleaning out your attic or inspiring an audience to sing “One Person can make all the difference”, Patty believes that music has the magic to open hearts and bring us together; to inspire us all to “make this planet a place where dreams really do come true.” Her music has been described as “The perfect antidote to a tough day”
Patty’s passion for music began when she asked for piano lessons from her grandma when she was just 4 years old. It continued thru high school with daily 4 am practices while studying with Chicago Symphony’s 2nd pianist Eloise Niwa. During those years, Patty also taught herself how to play guitar, later studying fingerstyle with John Stropes at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. She continued her music studies thru college majoring in music therapy & studying piano with Zhanna Dawson at UWM.
As for the inspiration to write songs…Patty’s grandpa, Alexander Kunda (who wrote Romany) & Gretchen Van Auken (who wrote all the pieces on Clouds) inspired Patty to start writing. Folk legends like Kate Wolf, Joni Mitchell, Larry Penn, Dougie McClean, and John Prine have all influenced Patty’s writing.
